What is social prescribing?

Social Prescribing is connecting people with services and groups with the aim of improving wellbeing and quality of life. We refer into services like befriending, help with getting shopping done, peer support groups, carer support, counselling, housing and benefits advice - or it could be more focused on social activities, volunteering, and much more.

Our focus is on empowering the people we work with to make positive changes in their own lives, to help reduce the pressure on our NHS. We’re led by what the person we’re working with needs, so the Social Prescribing journey looks different for every individual - because everyone is unique and has different areas they want to focus on improving.

What areas do you cover and who do you work with?

We can work with anyone aged 18+ years, and are funded to support people who are registered at GP surgeries in Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay, and Faversham.

We are a friendly bunch - so if you live outside these areas and need support, do get in touch and we can connect you up with the best service to help, local to you.

To get in contact with us please email socialprescribing@redzebra.org.uk or call 01227 272781.

What is social prescribing?

This is when you are referred or signposted into non-clinical services by a professional as a way of supporting or improving your health and wellbeing.

Social Prescribing Link Workers are new posts, funded by the NHS, who will support you and make referrals on your behalf into community services.

Do you want to get involved in your community and help others?

There are hundreds of local community organisations registered that you can help by volunteering.

Maybe you want to work with animals, help the homeless, or get involved in a fundraising event - whatever it is, there is someone out there who needs your help.
