The service is for over 55’s who live within a CT5 postcode, who find it difficult to use public transport either through age or disability. It is aimed at helping get to essential appointments such as health centres, hospitals, dentists, chiropodists, day centres etc. Where resources permit, shopping and social trips may be possible. We offer a return journey and you will not be charged for waiting time, which is up to a maximum of 2 hours. If your appointment lasts longer than this, e.g. taking you in the morning and collecting in the afternoon, there will be a double charge. To use the scheme, you must become a member, which costs £12 per year (or £18 for a couple.) When you book a journey with our volunteer drivers, there will be a £2 administration charge + 45p per mile (minimum charge £6.50) When joining, we will ask you for information which will allow us to provide the service you need, e.g. if you are a wheelchair user we will find you a driver with a larger car.
With over 40 volunteers the service is well used across Whitstable, helping people maintain their independence for as long as possible. All volunteer drivers are DBS checked and insured.
